Our annual Staff Development Workshop commenced on 26 December 2010 and concluded on 6 January 2011.

A few changes to the topic coverage was made this year in reflection to the previous years’ workshop evaluation. And I would like to state that the changes were positively received by the participants of the workshop.
All MCHE library staff (except for those with exceptional circumstances) participated along with library staff from National Research Library & five staff from the National Library of Maldives. As with the past years’, the dedication of the MCHE Kulhdhuffushi Campus management is appreciated for arranging for the library staff from the campus to come to Male’ to take part in the workshop.

The evaluations for the sessions were very positive overall. The sessions on employee/employer rights and responsibilities, Dhivehi communication skills, and customer care are among the most popular sessions. The impromptu presentation, time management, and fire fighting are among the most enjoyable and fun sessions. The library related modules were also very favorably received by almost all the participants, for the informational level of the sessions. The overall evaluation of the workshop as a whole is very good with most of the sessions in demand for the next annual workshop of the kind. A number of requests were also received to include leadership skills and self awareness sessions.

The library management is very thankful for the external resource persons for agreeing to take the sessions. Their expertise and time is highly appreciated. The support received from the MCHE Central Administration is also appreciated.
Tha hard work, the time, and dedication put in by our training coordinator Athiyya Shakeel and all the internal resource persons within our library team is highly appreciated and commended. One of the aims of organizing this workshop series is to give our library team members a chance to step out of their comfort zones and explore new ventures in a friendly environment. The opportunity to explain things out loud to others is one aspect that can be mastered from this program, firstly for self development and secondly to be able to help our clientele confidently in their quest for information. I personally commend those people bold enough and strong enough to stand in front of the rest of the team and also those who volunterred for the group presentations throughout the sessions. Kudos to you all
A special thank you is due, to all the participants for their cooperation and their active participation. Workshop style is adopted for this training mainly because this is a learning process for the training coordinators and facilitators, as much as it is for the participants. The workshop is also an opportunity for all the MCHE Library staff working in different branch libraries to come together and exchange their knowledge, challenges, and new ideas.
The staff development workshop was wrapped up today (Jan 11, 2011) with a small “casual” ceremony. All participants were awarded with a certificate of participation. The chief guest at the ceremony was Mr Abdul Rasheed Ali (Absy), Dean of Faculty of Arts.
The MCHE Library organizes its annual staff development workshop to offset lack of local training in this field. This is also an effort in continuous improvement and quality assurance of our services to our clientele. This year we invited all other administrative staff within the Central Administration to take part in our generic sessions like customer care, time management, communication skills, employee/employer rights & responsibilities, and fire safety awareness. The library management hopes that the HR section of MCHE will take up this lead and introduce annual staff development events for the wider MCHE staff community.
I wish the participants all the best and hope that the information gained from the workshop will be utilized to provide an efficient and customer friendly service to our clientele.
